Teen Summer Reading

Beginning, Monday, June 2, you can sign up for the Teen Summer Reading Program. All you have to do, if you sign up for this program, is read. And you guys do that anyway, right?

Sign up for the program. Between June 2 and August 2, read six books. That's it. Six books. You can read manga, graphic novels, fiction, non-fiction, or even listen to audiobooks. The only thing that doesn't count is reading magazines. Simply read (or listen to) six books, write a little review of the book on the forms that will be provided to you, and hand the reviews in. For each review you hand in, you'll get a little incentive - mood pencils, cell phone charms, etc. If you read and review all six books, your name will be entered into and end-of-summer drawing. Two winners of the end-of-summer drawing will each receive a basket filled with goodies.

But, you can still have fun over the summer, even if you don't feel like reading. The library will be hosting some events over the summer - and you do not need to sign up for the Teen Summer Reading Program to participate.

Twilight Trailer!

Twilight in HD

It's almost summer...

Do you Facebook? If you do, the Teen Area now has its very own Facebook page! You can find a calendar of events, and general information about what we have in our space. Also, you can look at pictures from various events that we've held.

In other news, coming up soon, the library will be hosting a Breaking Dawn Release Party. No, this isn't going to happen at midnight. And no, we probably won't have free copies of the book for you to take home. But, even taking all of that in mind, if you're a fan of the Twilight series and Stephenie Meyer, then this might be an event that you would want to attend. During the party there will be contests, giveaways, trivia, and, I'm sure, the ever present discussions on who Bella should end up with - Edward or Jacob. If you are interested, you are more than welcome to help in the planning of this party. More details will be coming out over the summer, so keep your eyes peeled for them.

And finally, don't forget about Teen Summer Reading. Sign up will begin on June 2 and the program will run through August 2. Basic details of the program are - read 6 books throughout the summer, write a little review of each, and win prizes! If you read all 6 books, your name will go into a drawing for an end-of-summer prize that's bigger than the rest. We will also have a few special SRP events over the summer - you do not have to sign up for the program to attend the events, but you do have to sign up to win the prizes. More information about the prizes and programs will come out as it gets closer to sign up time!

And I leave you today with a video from the ever popular, Meg Cabot.

Upcoming Programs

There are two movie programs coming up quick at the Gettysburg Library! The first movie is a recent release...

When teenager Sam Witwicky buys his first car, what he doesn't know, is that it's actually an alien robot. This isn't the only alien to arrive on Earth. Optimus Prime and a fellow group of transforming robots have arrived in search of the AllSpark. But, Optimus Prime and his Autobots aren't the only aliens to appear. Megatron and the Decepticons are also searching for the AllSpark, and it would do anything to get it, even if it means destroying the city.

We'll be watching this on Sunday, April 20th @ 2:00 pm @ the Gettysburg Library.

The second movie that we will be watching is a brand new release. We'll actually be showing it on the on the evening that it is released to DVD...

This movie is from the point of view of five New Yorkers. It
starts as a monster of unknown origin destroys a building. As they go to investigate, parts of the building and the head of the Statue of Liberty come raining down. The movie follows their adventure trying to escape and save a friend, a love interest of the main character.

We'll be watching this on Tuesday, April 22nd @ 6:30 pm @ the Gettysburg Library.

As always, all county teens 13+ are welcome and we will be popping the popcorn and providing drinks.

You Asked, We Listened...

Lately I've been getting more and more requests for Teen Audiobooks. I do listen to your requests, and whenever possible, I do try to fill them. I am very happy to announce that the library is now purchasing Teen Audiobooks on cd. They will be shelved in the Teen Are with all of the other Teen items. As time goes on we will be adding more audiobooks to the collection.

In other news, Sarah Dessen has a new book due out on April 22nd. Here, you can watch Sarah as she talks about the new book, Lock & Key.
